Going to the Theatre!

I went to the theatre this afternoon. My friend Caroline got tickets from her sister (who works at the theatre) and took me to see the Tweenies Live Show. I didn't really know who the Tweenies are, but now I do!! Apparently they have a show on CBeebies (the BBC children's channel). MaMa was sad that I was having my first trip to the theatre without her, but happy I could have a fun date with Caroline!

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Last night we were listening to a new-ish CD during dinner. Baa Baa Black Sheep started playing and I started singing along. What I didn't know was that DaDa had snuck out of the kitchen and had set up the video camera very, very quietly on top of the toaster.

Feel free to sing along!

If you have trouble hearing me, I'm saying "Rooster" in the beginning, because there was a rooster crowing on the end of the previous song. Then I say "Baa Baa Black Sheep" a couple of times and then "Baa" and "Sheeps" before singing the song.

God Made JoMo!

Tonight Daddy was dressing me for bed after my bath. We were talking about the different parts of my body and Daddy was telling me that God made them. I thought about it for a second and I said, "God made JoMo." Daddy and Mommy said, "That's right. God made JoMo! Mommy and Daddy got to help, but God put you together."

Choo Choo!

Yesterday Mommy and Daddy and I went to a local park after my nap. On the way and while we were there, I saw THREE hot air balloons! That was exciting!

But that wasn't the real reason they took me. It was the last day of the season for the Cutteslowe Park Miniature Railway--the CPMR. Yes, we rode the choo choos! They have lots of different kinds, mostly steam engines, with at least one electric locomotive and one diesel.

The only sad thing was that Mommy caught her foot at the end of the first train ride and she and I fell off and I bonked my head! Not too bad though, and I got right back on the next train with Daddy! I got to ride the trains four times before they closed down for the year. I can't wait until next spring, when it all starts again!

Daddy made a video of us riding the trains and put it on YouTube. Click on the video below to play it.

You know you live in England when . . . .

. . . I don't think anything of uttering things like "blackcurrant" and "stinging nettle"--like I did tonight at dinner! Blackcurrant because I wanted Daddy to give me that flavor of yoghurt, and stinging nettle because we were talking about blackberry picking, and nettles are often near the blackberry bushes! Well actually, they're a lot of places here! [ed.: Okay, so they also grow in the US, but I never really encountered them until I moved to England...ouch!]

Watch out Jamie Oliver!

I love to cook! In fact, I love going to nursery and church because I get to cook there. They both have kitchens just my size.

Because of my fever and bronchitis, I wasn't able to go to church on Sunday and stayed home from nursery today. Yesterday Mommy thought I might miss cooking, so she let me help her make my beloved Eggy Toast in the big kitchen. (Scroll down on this page to a post from August 29th to see me making real Eggy toast.) She then made me my own stove [Br. Eng: cooker] so I could make some more Eggy Toast in the living room. I'm adding "cinnamon" to the bowl here. [It's actually an empty Garam Masala spice jar, but as my friend Marti would say, "That's not important right now!" For JoMo, all spices are "cinnamon."]

YUMMY!!

And by the way, that's my much loved Lambie next to the stove; he's definitely NOT on the menu!!

I also enjoy typing on Daddy's poot-poot [computer]. I make big, colorful ABC's and numbers. I like finding my favorite letters and typing them over and over again. "More M's!" I say. "K there!" I've also learned that the Enter key gives me lots of white space on the page if I hit it over and over. Then I can add in some more ABC's!

Growing up

Some people want to know how big I am now and what size clothes I'm wearing. Maybe they are thinking of my birthday (November 22) or Christmas. Or maybe they just want to know how I'm growing. Or perhaps it is just intellectual curiosity.

Last week, I finally hit 25 pounds on the scale, only to lose nearly 2 pounds this week. I kind of lost interest in my food, what with a fever, stuffy nose, and cough. But for a while I was nearly on the 20 percentile line for weight. Mommy and Daddy were excited about that. Considering I spent most of my life below the 1% line, they thought I was doing pretty good!

My head, on the other hand, is normal size for my age; my 18-24 month summer sunhat is a bit tight on me now. Thus while I still technically fit in most of my 9-12 months [better known in the US as 12-month size] t-shirts (which I was wearing last Christmas....), some of them are pretty difficult to get over my head, pulling at my hair and getting stuck around my eyebrows. Ouch, Mom! Almost all are getting too short in the arms and tummy, too, letting everyone see my onesie sticking out between my shirt and the top of my trousers. Hey, I finally have a belly! Mommy has been shopping on eBay and at Primark [a local discount store], on the lookout for 12-18 and 18-24 month size. Nothing wrong with rolling up the sleeves!

Most of my 9-12 month trousers jeans still fit, but some (mostly the American brands) are a bit tight in the tummy and Mom calls some of them "floods." The 12-18 month ones are more comfortable but most of them (especially the British brands) have to be folded up at the bottom! It depends on the store. The 12-18 month ones from GAP or Old Navy seem to be about the right length--for now, but probably not much longer. I love overalls [Br. Eng.: dungarees], but I have just one pair (12-18 months from Old Navy) and they are definitely too small. So Mom is looking at mostly 18-24 American size trousers/overalls for winter. Nothing wrong with rolling the cuff and putting on a belt! Mommy says I have Grandpa's legs (her dad's, that is).

My onesies/bodysuits are changing from 12-18 months to 18-24 months (which are roomier). I'm outgrowing my 12-18 month footed pajamas, although the ones without feet fit okay. (As does a British 9-12 month one without feet!) Mom likes the Carter's footed pjs and Gap two-piece pjs--I am or will very soon be 18-24 month in those. They fit more snugly then the UK pjs. Too bad there are no Carter's available here, and GAP is ridiculous ($35 for a pair of pjs!--the one pair I have was a gift from a friend working there).

My shoe size is now 4 1/2 G (or sometimes F) in Clarks UK sizing. That would be about a 4 in StartRite (UK) shoes and about a 5 or 5 1/2 and roughly medium in US shoes [don't ask me what width in US sizes as I have no idea--although he seems happy enough in a pair of Carter's tennis shoes that are a size 5AAA! Maybe it's the flashing lights . . . . ] After not growing for several months, my feet are growing again!

How tall am I? We're not sure. They don't measure length here at birth, and our GPs don't have a way of measuring at their offices, although Mom did get me measured at the hospital a couple of times this past year when I went there to see the big doctors. They only start measuring height at the GP around the 2nd birthday. So I'll tell you then! But based on some clothing labels, Mom thinks I must be about 80 cm /31 inches, give or take.

"Good things come in small packages" some people tell me. I kind of prefer the saying "Small, but mighty!"

Unda da wedda

So sorry I haven't posted for awhile. I've been busy with starting nursery school and all the adventures I have there. (Will write about those later....) But also I caught a cold which took a turn for the worse on Friday when I got really hot and my cough get really rattly. I have to breathe some medicine through a mask to help my cough. I'll write more when I feel better.

I'll post some old pictures--from last April, when I was about 16 months old!! I've really grown since then and have much more hair! But I thought you might enjoy seeing me flying a plane. It was an American Eagle Embraer puddlejumper from DCA to RDU. The pilot kindly let me have a go. I needed to sit in Mommy's lap though in order to see over the instrument panel. [Remember, if you want to see the pictures fullscreen, just click on them. To get back to the blog, hit the back arrow on your browser.]

Here we go! Pull back gently on the yoke . . .

What does that thing do?

Piece of cake! When can I solo??
