Hark the Herald! Jingle Bells!

I love to sing Christmas carols! Last Sunday afternoon we went caroling at a nursing home with some of the other families from our church. We took some treats we all had baked for the people there. Mommy and Daddy and I had made gingerbread people. It was a lot of fun! In fact, on the way home, I kept insisting and even yelling that we had to go to ANOTHER nursing home RIGHT NOW and sing more carols!

After my much-needed nap, we had dinner. Then we had a little Advent service at home, as we have been doing on Sunday evenings this month. We lit the candles in the Advent wreath Mommy made and we read a little bit from the Bible. This Sunday Mommy wanted to sing a Christmas carol, too. I suggested 'Jingle Bells.' I love Jingle Bells! Mommy and Daddy kind of frowned and said, 'Well, Jingle Bells isn't exactly about Jesus. Let's try to sing a carol about Jesus.' Finally, they compromised and we sang 'Hark the Herald' AND 'Jingle Bells.' Mommy said that since we had lit the Candle of Joy that maybe Jingle Bells wasn't too inappropriate after all, as it is a fun song. I got a hold of Mommy's hymnal afterwards and gave my own interpretation of Hark the Herald (click on the Play button in the middle of the video below). Mommy grabbed her camera. Notice how well I am 'reading'!

And now, here I am singing 'Jingle Bells' today with my keyboard accompaniment. (Look, Ma! No hands!) Notice how I can smack my lips in rhythm (right after I sing 'Jingle all the way!').

If you are wondering where I get my jazzy vibe, you should check out one of my favorite versions of Jingle Bells, by a lady named Diana Krall, by clicking HERE. When I recorded this video I actually hadn't seen Diana Krall's version since last Christmas (when I used to ask for it a lot!). But I have a pretty good memory!
