Moving Day!

Last night [Saturday night.... it's taken awhile to post this entry!] I finally got to move into my new room! Boy, I was so excited!

Here I am a couple of weeks ago in my sleeping bag (which by the way matches all the new bedding for my new bed!) in my old cot [i.e. crib].

MaMa and DaDa had to move it into the middle of their bedroom for a few weeks while my new room was being worked on. They had to put a wardrobe [armoire] where my cot used to be. It used to be right next to their bed, as in this photo. That's a Monarch Airlines poster next to my cot. A pilot who works at Daddy's school gave it to me.

After my last nap in my old cot [i.e. crib], MaMa and DaDa took me into the new room and showed me what they had been working on while I was sleeping. They had hung up some posters of Babar--one in an airplane and one with hot air balloons! MaMa had made my new bed with all its new linens which had little airplanes on it. I kept pointing at everything and exclaiming. (See videoclip at the end of this post.)

When it was finally bedtime, it took me a long time to fall asleep. I told MaMa and DaDa that I was no longer a little boy, I was a big boy now! I said, 'I'm as big as Babar! As big as Daddy!' 'Almost....!' said MaMa.

After the lights were out and the door closed, I kept calling Mommy and Daddy back in to bring me more 'critters'--what I call my stuffed animals--from my old bed. [Must be Daddy's Texas roots showing.] And sometimes, I just wanted to talk about the new things in my room! MaMa says I was giddy. [He's still giddy, several days later....]

I'll include some more photos of my room being fixed, and then how it looks at last!

Come and visit me in my new room!

1) Here is the room just after the ceiling and the wall above the picture rail and the trim had been painted and the tan 'lining paper' put on over the lime plaster (and in some places, regular plaster). You can't paint directly on lime plaster--it has to be lined first. Already the room looks so nice and fresh and almost ready to live in!

2) Here is the room with the painting finished and the border on!
The wall above the picture rail is a pale yellow, and it is two different shades of blue below it. The painter said 'Looks like a beach house' until he put the border up. Then he saw where things were heading! But MaMa and DaDa don't mind the beach house look either.

3) Here I am sitting at my new table and chairs from Ikea! Boy, that was an adventure! What a huge store! I had a lot of fun there. And I got this cool furniture and a matching nightstand. The table has five legs! Isn't that funny!

4) Here I am vacuuming the floor of my room in preparation for the carpet being laid. Note the Victorian staining on the wood floor--they stained the edges dark, and left unfinished the center, where a rug, typically oriental, would be. Click on the arrow in the middle of the screen to play the video.

5) Here's the new carpet.

And at last, here is my reaction to seeing my newly completed room for the very first time.

Some more pictures of things in my new room. Here's one of the Babar posters! And the light DaDa made. It's a hot air balloon! And my new mobile with airplanes, clouds, and a hot air balloon!

And here I am sleeping in my new big boy bed, just as MaMa and DaDa came in on Sunday morning to wake me up.... As you can see, I still need to learn how to sleep with sheets and blankets and quilts and duvets, rather than the sleepsack that I used to get snapped into every night!

I hope you enjoyed seeing my room! I'm a happy boy!

Hey JoMo, that's a beautiful room. I know you are really proud of your Dad and Mom for working so hard to renovate the space into a wonderful new bedroom for a wonderful little man! We love you! Grandma Shirley and PaPa Ron.

P.S. Happy playing and sleeping in your new space!
