Clocks and Hats
Each day Mommy and Daddy understand more and more of what I am saying. They really are learning quickly!
Now they understand when I say:
-cot [what Americans would call a 'crib']
-hat
-keys
-juice
-kick (Mommy says it a lot to me when we're swimming)
-"No thank you!"
And also when I sign:
-hat (usually simultaneously with saying it)
-airplane/aeroplane (I put my hand straight up in the air and make a noise like a jet taking off--they LOVE that one!)
Several of my books are all about clocks. Did you know that Goodnight Moon and Goodnight Gorilla are really about clocks? (And moons, of course.) I'll show you all of them. There is clearly a hidden subtext about the passing of time, how fleeting childhood is. Something like that. Another hidden message in some of my books is about hats. I haven't figured what that one is about yet, but I'm happy to point to them and say "hat!" for you, just in case you missed them.
I combined these two key ideas yesterday in one of my first two-word phrases. As we walked by the clock that my Grandma Shirley gave me for Christmas, I said "Clock....Hat!" and signed hat. Dad says I should have signed/said/meowed for "Cat" too, since it's a Cat in the Hat clock. As you can see, though, I communicated the key ideas. Clocks and Hats. There's some connection there. I'm working on it!
